A little less pressure. A better first conversation.
Choose the pace, the kind of character and the details worth keeping. CutieChat is an independent publication for adults exploring fictional AI conversations.
A portrait and a warm opening cannot tell you whether a service lets you edit a persistent preference, keep a character draft private or restart a conversation without losing older context. Choose the task first; then compare the controls that support it.
Here is an original, ordinary starting point: a 30-year-old fictional bookshop owner who likes discussing unusual cover art. The conversation opens while arranging a display. One clear topic gives you something to respond to without inventing your actions for you.
The worksheet makes a plain-text brief locally in your browser. It is a planning aid, not a chatbot, and does not submit your text to a provider. Use invented details rather than private information.
Change only what you actually care about. A dozen overlapping personality adjectives can make it harder to tell which instruction caused an unwanted reply.
Put a detail where it belongs
A character has more than one kind of context.
These are documented examples of controls, not a ranking of which model follows them best.
A stable preference
Keep a lasting instruction separate from today's scene.
Nomi's Backstory+ separates core context, expression, a current roleplay and boundaries into named sections. That gives you places to distinguish a continuing preference from something that applies only to the present scene.
A speaking example
Show the shape of a useful reply.
Kindroid documents an Example Message alongside personality and response controls. Write an original example of your preferred length and perspective, rather than filling a biography with punctuation rules.
A short closing note can make the next visit easier: the current setting, the last choice you made and the one question still open. Keep a local copy if it matters to you. A note you can read and edit is easier to inspect than an assumption that an app remembers everything.
An invented example
“We stopped at the display table. The blue cover is our first choice; we have not picked a second book. Next time, ask what would make a good contrast.”
This is our suggested writing practice, not a product feature or a guarantee of future recall. The Nomi and Replika context comparison explains the controls each provider actually documents.
Compare Nomi's Mind Map and Replika's saved-memory view, and distinguish a visible record from a guarantee that an AI will retrieve it.

Questions before the first message
Start with a clear expectation.
Is CutieChat a live chat application?
No. This is an independent publication and planning resource. The articles compare named services and link to their actual documentation; the local worksheet writes a brief without generating AI replies.
Is CutieChat the same product as CuteChat?
We have not verified that relationship. The spellings are different, and this publication does not claim either product's identity, ownership or features.
Does a “friend” setting guarantee the tone I want?
No. A setting describes an intended mode, not perfect model behavior. Replika documents Friend as its casual relationship option; a response can still need correction or reporting. Our first-chat comparison separates that control from a written character greeting.
Should I reset a chat when a detail is wrong?
Identify where the problem lives first. A temporary wording problem and a persistent context error need different interventions. Read the reply-repair comparison before treating a reset as erasure.
